Boy Scouts of America Mission Statement

UPCOMING EVENTS

Tues May  8: Troop Meeting 7:00-8:30pm Community Presbyterian Church

  • Set-up/flag/clean-up patrol:  Hawk 1

  • Public Speaking Merit Badge #5 Scott Brewton/Alex. S.  Personal Management Merit Badge #5  Scott Conlon/ Karl G.

  • New Crossover scouts will meet with Guides Jacob D. and Dylan B.

Tues May 15:  Troop Meeting 7:00-8:30  Community Presbyterian church

  • Set-up/flag/clean-up patrol:  Hawk 1

  • Troop Elections: Scouts elected today will TAKE OFFICE on JULY 1!  Options are :  Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Guide, Instructor, Scribe, Historian, Chaplain, and a Patrol Leader  for every patrol. Each Scout has a few moments to tell the troop why he would like to be elected to a specific position:  Please be prepared to say something beyond “I need this for advancement” Any scout interested in Assistant Senior Patrol Leader needs to speak with Mr. Brewton ahead of time.

  • Safe Swim Defense Video and Discussion.  Dan Decerbo

  • Dr. Maness will be available if anyone still needs a summer camp physical.

Fri-Sun May 18-20:  Huntington Beach Trip  $50  Adult Advisor Sara Barton/Trip Masters Derek C. & James H. Sign-ups have begun.  Scouts must have had volunteered at Scout Hut Clean-up on May 5th and attended safe swim defense class on

  • May 15th to attend this trip.  More adults needed.

Tues May 22:  Troop Meeting 7:00-8:30pm. Community Presbyterian Church

  • Set-up/flag/clean-up patrol:  Hawk 1

  • Extended Patrol Corners Night:  patrols need to discuss ideas for next years’ troop meetings.  Suggestions for scout skills and Merit Badges will  be written down and submitted to troop leadership for consideration at planning meeting for PLC on June 9.  We need adult advisors for each patrol to be decisively engaged during this discussion to help scouts put forth serious and helpful suggestions.

Tues May 29:  Troop Meeting 7:00-8:30pm.  Community Presbyterian Church

  • Set-up/flag/clean-up patrol:  Hawk 1

  • Scout Skill First Aid:  Beaver Patrol

  • Lightning Patrol will meet with Troop Guides Jacob D. and Dylan B.

Fri-Sun June 22-24:  Foster Falls Camping/Biking Trip.  Please note the change of date from the original!  Sara B. is in the process of finding out who might be INTERESTED in this trip.  Please express your interest, by signing on the “interest” sheet at the troop meeting.  Trip will be at least $50 per person. This will be car camping with opportunities for 50 mile bike ride,  25 mile bike ride,  hiking & fishing.  Scouts do not HAVE to do the long bike rides, but they are available for those that are trying to earn the Biking MB.  We plan to bring bikes up with us and address a couple of the other  Biking MB requirements if scouts would like.

SCOUT UNIFORM EXCHANGE

We are collecting used scout uniform items and used camping equipment for the purposes of redistributing to any scouts that could use them!  Please bring your used items to our quartermaster, Luke D. during the next month.  On June 12,  at our party at the Marina, we will display items for the taking!

OPPORTUNITY FOR PHILMONT THIS SUMMER

There are 3 openings in the Occoneechee Contingent attending Philmont this summer, June 28-July 13.  Two of the openings will cost the full $1700;  One of the openings comes at a reduced price of $1200.  Scouts must be 14 yo and at least 1st Class Rank.   If you are interested, contact our Moore District Executive, Nick Long.  Cell:  910-986-3929
